I'm doing a reading tomorrow!
Hiya.
Life’s been busy, so less posting here. I haven’t been non-posting out of laziness, I swear, it’s out of true-blue, bonafide business. Tons of projects on the go, tons of scheming, and tons of hustling, all the while battling massive S.A.D. that hit me like clockwork shortly after Christmas.
Unless some crazy circumstances pop up, this will definitely be my last Jan/Feb...

– And I should Know by Roseanne Barr.
One of the most groundbreaking and bullshit-calling pieces I have EVER read. EVER. Every woman must read it and re-read it whenever they need to call upon a strength hidden deep within themselves.

Boyfriends, how they anger me. Or, I finally...
As predicted, some family drama is going down. Luckily, I don’t care.
This post is about something I DO care about: BOYS.
How to NOT piss me off if you’re a boy/friend (because I have fucked up principles):
Post a comment about how pretty some girl I don’t know looks in a photo on Facebook.
Sigh, fair enough, she’s damn gorgeous. Why pretend otherwise? Plus, she has a...

Yes. This quote.
Slavka is moving to Sao Paulo. He’s taking a chance on <3. He stuck his toe in the deep end of the pool, and now he’s jumping in. I couldn’t be more excited for him.

In Which I Discuss Free Work, Getting Screwed...
Well now.
A couple bum decisions in Q3 2011 and I it will take me a good year or so to fully recover my tarnished rep in certain (non 9-5 jobby/marketing/corporate, at least) circles that are very important to me:
One was my fault. I accept that. My olive branch was shot down like a Nazi fighter jet. Instead of accepting things gracefully, I saw one of the involved parties at an event, had...

I did writerly things last week
Aside from some crazy writing I did last week (I was incredibly productive last week…happens every fall/winter!), I went to a couple of writerly events last Wednesday, October 26th.
On that rainy night, my first stop was Revival on College Street for Tightrope Books “Best Canadian Poetry in English 2011” launch. I met up with Nathaniel there. He gave me a signed copy of his...

All the Single Ladies - The new feature in The...
My current beau is American.
I will never go back to (seriously) dating a Torontonian for many reasons this article discusses.
This feature talks about the rise of the single woman, and the decline of men. I could go on about the countless beautiful, smart, successful women I know, and equal amount of “deadbeats,” “players,” and cretins that comb these Toronto streets....

There is no such thing as a real woman. Whoever made this post, you should be ashamed of yourself for glorifying one body type but putting down another. Everyone comes in different shapes and different sizes. Damn, people like this piss me off.

This little post is inspired by this article in the online reincarnation Jane, of my fave magazine from back in my tween days. I was browsing xojane.com and I couldn’t believe the timeliness of this post.
In the past little while, my little circle, including me, has encountered this sort of dude. The dude that wants to date you, but “warns” you that his Best Friend for Life is a...

In which I discuss Very Bad Domestic Situations.
Alright, so, Penelope Trunk (PT, as I call her) posted a really alarming blog entry today. I know exactly what she’s going through, from both her and her kids’ perspectives. Her blog post is timely as last night, over pasta and wine, a good friend and I had a chat over my recent behaviour and (non) relationship with an (estranged) ex. This ex and I damaged each other pretty good and while I’ve...

Sami Brady style, only without the evil scheming.
This is some Days of Our Lives shit up in here.
So for the past while I’ve been carrying the weight of some drama around. Seriously, it sits heavy and painfully conflicted at the bottom of my chest. Sometimes, so much so that I can feel it leaning on my lungs, causing me to have difficulty breathing.
Some shit went down and I’ve...

On Lending People Money.
I have two (2) rules when it comes to lending people money:
1. Only lend it your very bestest bosom buddies and family members (ones that are not too far removed) who actually need it to fulfill one of the bottom two rungs of Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.
2. Assume that you’ll never see it again.
I would definitely abide by rule #1, as it takes the sting out of rule #1.

Have you ever had this conversation-
Boss: Hey You, it turns out in the last month, you screwed up a few times, eh? This seems to be an issue.
You: Have I? OMG OH NOES! I suck. I’m so sorry, I’ll do better next time I promise!
Then your boss either responds: buck up, kid, it happens to the best of us -or- this seems to be happening a lot lately…blah blah blah veiled threat

So I’m back from a(nother) 2-week stint in Costa Rica. It was magical but more on that later. First, I have a couple of PSA-type blog posts.
In this one I want to talk about people in your circle who ignore your requests for help/advice/etc., and then turn around and ask you for something they discover you have.
I was back and forth all day on email with a very successful businessdude....

On Marriage.
In the past few years, as I rounded out my 20s, there have been many men using the old, “romance” bait and switch to try and trick me into marrying them (early 20s). Or if not marrying them, then trying to trick me into desiring to marry them, and if not desiring to marry them (if they finally got the hint) then trying to trick me into desiring to be married at all - a tool used by...

I am a horrible gift reciever.
So, the above image is of a bracelet from the high end jewelry store, Pandora. Before my birthday, I had only heard of Pandora two weeks prior, at my best childhood friend’s (BCF’s) birthday. Her husband (and kids) got her a bracelet loaded with charms. As I learned on my birthday, her gift probably cost several hundred dollars total when you add up the individually bought charms.

Two of my favourite bloggers are Jewish. They talk about deep things, make highly reflective and thoughtful observations and offer genuine advice and insight. They are also American. My gentleman friend has a last name that sounds like it *could* be Jewish but he is so not. So so not. I wonder if took his last name one day (?), people would see my name and automatically think I’m Jewish,...
